Detective Mike Hammond
Mike Hammond is a retired Homicide Detective with the Chicago Police Department, A member of the Chicago Police Department for 22 years he was promoted to detective in 2000 where he served in Area Four Homicide Unit, Cold Case Homicide Unit and Area North Homicide until his retirement in 2016. He is a recipient of the Chicago Police Department Superintendents Award of Valor, Cook County Sheriff’s Award of Valor, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7’s Distinguished Service Award and the Chicago Police Department’s Life Saving Award, multiple Chicago Police Department Commendations, honorable mentions and civilian letters of commendation.
Through his experience as a homicide detective in some of the most violent neighborhoods in the country Detective Hammond developed a deep understanding of the investigation of murders and violent crime. How to communicate compassionately and constructively with victims and their families to get answers and justice. Crime scene through identification of offenders to the inner workings of successful prosecution and trial, he can accurately describe the entire process. The why and how of violent encounters and how they can be avoided and the questions to ask for resolution.
Mike was born and raised in western and central Indiana and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology,’87, from Indiana State University. With family in Chicago, he spent time in the city throughout his life and permanently moved to Chicago after college. He is the father of a daughter and son. Mike enjoys music of all genre’s, exploring different cultures, solving murders, saltwater fishing and has been trying to learn the Spanish language for most of his life.
